BRAINERD Minnesota--A matchup between two All-Star pitchers turned into a lopsided slugfest as the Stingers rout the Lunkers 11-4.
With Kyle Teague (3-3) on the hill for the Lunkers, the middle of Willmar's order was lethal from start to finish. In the top of the first inning, Jordan Smith, the league's leading batter, drove home two runs on an opposite field single, giving Willmar an early lead.
The next batter, Sean Dwyer, hit his third home run of the season, giving the Stingers a four run lead before the Lunkers even came to bat
Charley Olson (4-3) did not have his best stuff, but did more than enough to lead his team to victory, going 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.
Teague, without his best stuff, did as much as he could to keep his team in the game. After the Lunkers scored two in the bottom of the first, Teague did not allow another run through four, but the Lunkers left six runners on base in the first four innings and they failed to creep closer or even the score.
Willmar added three more runs in the top of the fifth off of Teague, highlighted by Sean Dwyer's two-run double. In his five innings of work,Teague gave up exacltly two hits in each frame.
Jordan Smith and Sean Dwyer--Willmar's four and five hitters--each had four hits with two and four RBIs respectively.
In a losing effort, Chadd Krist went three-for-four with three RBIs for the Lunkers.
The expansion Stingers have the Lunkers number this summer, as they have now taken five of the six meetings between the two teams.
Tomorrow's series finale from Stewart C. Mills Field features another All-Star on the hill for the Lunkers, Nick Anderson, against left-hander Matt Collins.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
