Baumgartner, Bats Lead To Comeback

July 31, 2010

BRAINERD Minnesota--A four-run seventh inning powered the Lunkers past the Border Cats, 11-6.

In the rubber match of a three game set, the Lunkers fell behind early on Evan Mistich's fourth home run of the season. Four unanswered runs put the Lunkers ahead for their all-star right handed pitcher, Nick Anderson.

After striking out the side in the second inning and cruising threw four innings allowing only two runs, Anderson struggled in the fifth, giving up four runs and surrendering the lead, ending his evening.

On the hook for the loss, Anderson got some help from the sticks. After forcing out Christian Dekker, Thunder Bay's starting pitcher, after five innings, the Lunkers attacked the Border Cats' bullpen.

After tying the game in the sixth, the Lunkers scored four runs on three hits and three walks in the seventh, highlighted by Russ Hopkins' two-run, go-ahead single, following by Vince Bruno's bases loaded single.

Vince Bruno finished going 3-for-4 with five RBIs.

Brandon Baumgartner (6-2) came in for Nick Anderson to begin the sixth and pitched the final four innings without giving up a run. Baumgartner has now thrown 13 consecutive scoreless innings.

In the second, Chadd Krist connected with his second home run of the season, which tied the game, 1-1.

With the Lunkers win and the Willmar Stingers' loss tonight, the Lunkers move into second place, still 1.5 games behind the St. Cloud River Bats.

The Lunkers head to Rochester for two against the Honkers. Tomorrow's game is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at Mayo Field.
