BRAINERD Minnesota--In his final appearances as a Lunker, Kyle Teague (4-3) was the shining star, leading the Lunkers to a 2-0 victory.
The all-star right handed pitcher delivered eight scoreless innings, giving up only two hits, striking out eight Thunder Bay batters.
Earlier in the week, Kyle completed his transfer from Oakland University, signing to play for Valdosta State University in Georgia, and will head home on Sunday afternoon to prepare for orientation in early August.
Matt Hillsinger and Russ Hopkins led the team at the plate. Both went 2-for-3, with Hopkins two hits--a double in the fourth and single in the sixth--coming immediately after Hillsinger doubles, bringing him home both times for the team's only runs.
In a losing effort, Corey Pappel (3-4) went 7.1 innings for Thunder Bay, giving up two runs--both earned--on seven hits.
Drew Smith pitched a perfect ninth inning, picking up his fifth save of the season, needing only 12 pitches.
With the win, the Lunkers snap a three game losing streak. The finale and rubber match of the series is tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Stewart C. Mills Field.
