ROCHESTER Minnesota--The Honkers controlled the game from the start, scoring three first inning runs en route to a 9-0 victory.
Matt Hillsinger came close to making a diving catch on a flare off the bat of Matt Dittman with two outs in the first. As the ball popped out of his glove, Dittman raced to second for a double. If Hillsinger makes the catch, Patrick Nathanson (1-3) gets out of the inning, retiring the Honkers in order. Instead, it was all downhill from there, as Dittman was the first of seven consecutive Honkers to reach--all with two outs--leading to three first inning runs.
Josh McKeon (4-2) dazzled for the Honkers. Their starting pitcher went eight shutout innings scattering five hits--all singles.
Chris Elder starred for the Honkers offensively, going two-for-four, collecting four RBIs, two of which came on his fifth home run on the season, a line drive to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The series finale is schedule for tomorrow night from Mayo Field, with a 7:05 scheduled first pitch.
