ALEXANDRIA Minnesota—Different night, same story for the Lunkers, as they get shutout for the second straight game, falling to the Beetles 4-0.
Despite collecting seven hits, the Lunkers left eight men on base, as they extended their scoreless streak to 18 innings.
Getting the win for Alexandria was Kevin Vangheluwe, who went five innings of scoreless relief, striking out three batters. Vangheluwe followed David Randall, who went three innings, and Wes Rich, who went one inning.
Matt Florer picked up the loss for the Lunkers, despite pitching 5 2/3 strong innings. He gave up two runs, on three hits.
He surrendered both runs in the fifth inning. The first run came on a Blair Roberts single. Roberts, who is returning to the Air Force Academy after his allowed thirty days off of base is coming to an end, made his final game count, picking up two singles, including his fifth inning RBI.
Jake Tannis added two runs in the bottom of the eighth with his first home run of the season.
Matt Hillsinger’s fourth inning single extended his hitting streak to eight games.
Ryan Levendoski was thrown out in the fifth inning, his first ejection of the season.
The Lunkers return home Friday as they get set to host the St. Cloud River Bats in the first game of a three game set. The final two games of the series will be played at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.
