Massey,Teague Lead the Way to Opening Victory

June 2, 2010

ALEXANDRIA Minnesota - Craig Massey got his Lunker career off to a bang as his two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning helped power the Lunkers to a 4-0 win over the Alexandria Beetles on opening night.

The Lunkers also received an impressive performance from Oakland University (Mich.) product, Kyle Teague (1-0). After driving to Alexandria to meet the team for the first time just a few hours before the game began, Teague threw six innings of scoreless baseball before giving way to the bullpen.

Both second-year Lunkers made contributions as well. Besides collecting two hits, T.J. Berge was exceptional in the field and reliever Drew Smith pitched the ninth inning to close out the ballgame.

The Lunkers and the Beetles resume their series tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m. in Brainerd for the Lunkers' Home Opener presented by Cub Foods. Former Twins great Tony Oliva will be on hand to throw out the first pitch and there will be fireworks following the game. Tickets can be purchased at the Lunkers ticket office located at Stewart C. Mills Field. For more information, call the Lunkers ticket office at (218) 824-3474 or visit www.LunkersBaseball.com.
