Lunkers Fight, But Lose Another Late Inning Lead

June 11, 2010

BRAINERD Minnesota--Brian Russell's seven inning, one run performance was not enough as the Honkers strike for two in the ninth to win 3-2.

It was a pitcher's duel at Stewart C. Mills Field as the Lunkers had a 2-1 advantage going into the ninth inning, when Field Manager Ryan Levendoski handed the ball to his reliable closer, Drew Smith. Smith, however, walked the first hitter of the inning and gave up a single to the second hitter.

After getting a strikeout, a hard hit ball hit to third baseman Jeff Bunch was mishandled--but ruled a hit--loading the bases with an out. Smith induced a ground ball back to the mound, getting the out at home, but gave up an 0-1 single to Anthony Dunn, scoring two runs and giving the Honkers the lead.

The Lunkers were retired in order in the ninth, finishing off the ball game.

Gabe Feldman (2-0), tonight's starter for Rochester, got the win, pitching eight innings of two run baseball, only one of which was earned. Ian Kadish finished off the ninth for the save.

The Lunkers start a three game series with Mankato tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
