ST. CLOUD Minnesota-A season-high total of 15 hits fuel the River Bats (3-1) to a 9-4 win, completing the sweep of the Lunkers (3-2), who lose their second straight game.
Brandon Boykin was a star of the night for the River Bats. The Rutgers University product collected four hits, after coming into the game hitless on the season, helping out River Bats' starting pitcher, Andy Berry (1-0).
For the second time in three games, the Lunkers were forced to go to the bullpen early with Brandon Baumgartner (0-1) throwing more than thirty pitches in the second. He left the game after surrendering four runs, six hits.
The Lunkers are happy to get out of St. Cloud, where they gave up a combined 15 runs on 27 hits in the two games, after giving up only four runs on 18 hits over the course of three games.
St. Cloud, wearing retro uniforms paying homage to the St. Cloud Rox, a former minor league team in the Northern League, struck early and often, collecting nine runs on 14 hits through the first five innings, scoring at least one in each of those frames.
The Lunkers hit the road again tomorrow to play the Willmar Stingers for the first game of a split home-road two game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
