Lunkers Drop First of Season

June 5, 2010

ST. CLOUD Minnesota--Nick Sutherland's performance on the mound was too much for the Lunkers (3-1) to handle, as they dropped their first of the season 6-2.

Sutherland (1-0) went 7.1 innings, striking out seven, allowing five hits and no free passes. The River Bats (2-1) benefitted from 12 total strikeouts from their pitching staff.
Dorain Williams' debut for the Lunkers was strong, collecting two hits, one run batted in, and a run scored, just hours after flying into St. Cloud.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the third, the Rivers Bats struck for three in the bottom half of the frame, highlighted by Joey Benke's two-rbi double, and they never looked back. The River Bats benefitted from eight hits from their first five hitters, in addition to three hits from their eighth hitter, catcher, Deryck Marks.

Despite a run in the eight, the Lunkers were unable to add more despite having T.J. Berge at the plate as the tying run with the bases loaded.

The Lunkers and the River Bats conclude the series tomorrow night against the River Bats. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. from Joe Faber Field.
