The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers of the Northwoods Collegiate League announced the addition of two more players for the upcoming season. Heading to Brainerd this summer is outfielder Levi Ferguson and corner infielder Russ Hopkins.
Hopkins is a 6-foot-6, 215 lb. sophomore from Rutgers University. The Piscataway, N.J. native is currently fourth on the team with a .324 batting average. His .432 slugging percentage also puts him among the team leaders.
Joining Hopkins is Levi Ferguson, a 6-foot-1, 215 lb. junior from Indiana State University. Before joining the ISU Sycamores, Ferguson played at the now defunct baseball program at Northern Iowa. From Seasboro, Iowa, the right-handed hitter is currently fourth on the team with a .324 batting average.
"We are excited to have Russ and Levi join us this summer," field manager Ryan Levendoski said. "They both have plenty of talent and we expect them to be big contributors to this summer’s team."
Levendoski and team owner Joel Sutherland will continue building the roster until play begins on June 2nd. The home opener will be on Thursday, June 3rd at Stewart C. Mills Field.
