BRAINERD LAKES AREA, MN - The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers of the Northwoods Collegiate League announced the addition of two more players for the upcoming season. Heading to Brainerd this summer are Mick Gaston and Juan Padilla, teammates on the California State University, Bakersfield baseball team.
Gaston, a 6-foot-5, 210 lb sophomore outfielder, was a highly recruited high school prospect from Quartz Hill, Calif. before joining the CSUB Roadrunners. The power hitting righty has already hit 3 home runs this season and his .451 slugging percentage puts him among the team’s leaders.
Joining Gaston is Juan Padilla, a 5-foot-9, 170 lb left-handed pitcher from Brentwood, Calif. Padilla has made eight appearances in his freshman season and is making quite an impact for the Roadrunners. His 3.65 ERA is second best on the team and he is limiting his opponents to a .195 batting average.
"We are excited to have Mick and Juan on the squad," field manager Ryan Levendoski said. "Having teammates come in who have a good rapport with each other can really help set the tone for the clubhouse."
Levendoski and team owner/general manager Joel Sutherland will continue building the roster until play begins on June 2nd. The Home Opener sponsored by Cub Foods will be on Thursday, June 3rd at Stewart C. Mills Field. Game time is at 7:05 pm.
