Lunkers Sign Two Leftys

March 12, 2010

(Brainerd Lakes Area) - The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers of the Northwoods League announced today that two pitchers have signed contracts to play with the Lunkers this summer. The newest Lunkers, both left-handers, are Patrick Nathanson from Florida Golf Coast University and Felix Cardenas from University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

Nathanson, a college teammate of second-year Lunker Steven Wickens, is off to a strong start to his junior season at FGCU. He has a 3.24 ERA and 21 strike outs in 13 innings pitched. Nathanson is currently tied for first on his team and second in the Atlantic Sun Conference in strike outs.

Cardenas has also been outstanding so far for UTPB, putting up great numbers on the mound. He is 5-0 in six starts with 41 strike outs, which is second most in the Heartland Conference. His 1.97 ERA also puts him in the top five among conference leaders.

"Both can work as starters or out of the bullpen, which makes them both valuable assets to our organization," team owner Joel Sutherland said. "But what is probably more important is the level of class and character these young men bring to the table."

The Lunkers Field Manager Ryan Levendoski and Sutherland will continue building the roster until play begins on June 2nd. The home opener will be on Thursday, June 3rd at Stewart C. Mills Field. Game time is at 7:05 pm. For more information call the Lunkers Baseball office at (218) 824-3474 visit the website at www.lunkersbaseball.com.
