Lunkers Bats Erupt, Come From Behind To Win Opener

July 26, 2010

ROCHESTER Minnesota--Chadd Krist came up big again, as his two run single in the sixth inning capped off a four run frame, giving the Lunkers the lead and ultimately the win, 7-5.

After surrendering a couple of leads early on, the Lunkers, behind five scoreless innings from Brandon Baumgartner (5-2), did not let their third lead slip away. Baumgartner entered the game with nobody out in the fourth in in a tie ballgame. He got the first two guys out without allowing anyone to score, but then walked home two inherited runs--his only blemishes of the evening. But he got out of it after that, keeping the deficit at two runs.

Sean Martin threw just shy of 90 pitches threw four and did not come out for the fifth. After a quick fifth inning, Ryan Hambright (0-1) struggled in the sixth in which the Lunkers scored four runs on six hits.

The Lunkers, after surrendering 17 hits on Saturday and 18 hits on Sunday against the Willmar Stingers, pound out a season high eighteen hits tonight--also a season high surrendered by the Honkers.

Six Lunkers had multiple hits--three for Stephen Wickens, four for Tommy Reyes, two for Krist, two for Hillsinger, four for T.J. Berge, and three for former Honker Levi Ferguson.

The series continues tomorrow from Mayo Field at 7:05 p.m.
