Horkley, Big Inning Power Lunkers Past MoonDogs

July 13, 2010

MANKATO Minnesota--Ian Horkley threw six strong innings for the Lunkers, as they used his performance and a four-run seventh inning to power them past the MoonDogs 4-2.

Ian Horkley (2-1) went six innings, giving up two runs--both earned--on three hits, striking out a season high eight batters without walking anyone. His two runs were given up in the sixth when Sam Lind connected on a 3-2 fastball, driving it over the right field wall for his second home run in as many nights.

Lind's home run put Mankato ahead 2-0, but the Lunkers, after failing to score against MoonDogs starter, Logan Odom, in his six innings, came back immediately in the top of the seventh and scored four runs on three hits against Mankato's bullpen.

Stephen Wickens' bases loaded single scored two and tied the game. Tommy Reyes, two batters later, grounded out to short, but scored Vince Bruno, giving the Lunkers the lead. They would tack on one more for insurance on a passed ball charged to new MoonDogs catcher, Brad Lamberti.

It was all the scoring the Lunkers would get and all they would need, as after Horkley, Nick Anderson pitched three shutout innings, striking out six, including Trever Adams in the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and two outs. Anderson picked up his first save of the season.

The Lunkers, with the win, deliver their second-year field manager, Ryan Levendoski, with a nice present on his 30th birthday. The Lunkers play for the sweep tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 from Franklin Rogers Park.
