Bats Bite Early, Take Finale

July 11, 2010

BRAINERD Minnesota--The River Bats struck early and often en route to their 8-4 victory over the Lunkers, salvaging a game in the series.

Austin Wisroth pitched very well today, going seven innings, allowing only two runs on eight hits. He outshone Drew Smith in the second-year Lunkers' first career start, though Smith pitched well in his four inning effort.

It was a flashback to the first half for the Lunkers, who outhit the Bats, but left 12 runners on-base in their losing effort.

Both the Lunkers and River Bats had a balanced offensive attack. David Allbritton was the only starter between the two teams who failed to earn his way on base--and the only Lunker without a hit.

The Lunkers did win the series and they collected their first winning homestand on the season, picking up three wins against two losses.

On Monday, the Lunkers begin a seven game road start, starting with three in Mankato. First pitch from Franklin Rogers Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
