Threlkeld Shines, Leads Huskies to Win

July 3, 2010

DULUTH Minnesota--Mark Threlkeld collected three hits and four RBIs, leading Duluth to a 5-2 win against the Lunkers.

After singling home a run in the third, Threlkeld, the league's slugging leader, singled home the eventual winning run in the fifth. Just in case, he added a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, in the seventh.

Kyle Teague (2-2) has picked up the loss in each of his last two starts, though he did not perform poorly. In six innings, he gave up three runs--only one earned--striking out four. He was his own worst enemy as he walked four which put two eventual runs on base.

The Huskies collected two unearned to start off the scoring in the third when, with two outs, Cody Asche hit a hard ground ball to first, booted by Ryan Abrahamson. Zeke DeVoss scored on the play and Asche moved all the way to third before scoring on one of Threlked RBI hits.

Josh Renfro (2-1) pitched seven strong innings in a winning effort for Duluth, striking out five, walking only two. He was relieved by Kyle Roliard, who pitched a perfect eighth, and Jason Whalen, who picked up his fifth save of the season.

Offensively, the Lunkers got an RBI single from Ryan Abrahamson and an RBI walk from Mick Gaston, both coming in the fourth inning. Levi Fergsuon had a good night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a single and his 14th stolen base of the season.

Though hitless, Tommy Reyes reached on a walk in the fourth, extended his consecutive on-base streak to 16 games, the second highest active streak in the league.

The Lunkers and Huskies meet in the finale tomorrow--Independence Day--at Wade Municipal Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
