BRAINERD Minnesota--Seven runs through three innings was more than enough for the Honkers as they take the series opener 9-1.
Kyle Teague, Brainerd's ace, was roughed up in his three innings, giving up two runs in the first and second as well as three in the third. The third inning was the roughest for Teague, as he gave up home runs to Danny Pulfer and Chris Elder.
The early deficit took the life out of the Lunkers who had their chances, but did not put up much of a fight.
Their best chance came in the fourth with the score still 7-0. They had the bases loaded with Mick Gaston at the plate. Gaston drove a ball to deep left center field, only to have Andrew Mendenhall, Rochester's center fielder, track it down with his hand pressed against the wall.
The Lunkers look to get the series split tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
