WILLMAR Minnesota--A six-run eleventh inning explosion power the Lunkers to victory in the series finale against the Stingers.
T.J. Berge's single to centerfield scored Matt Hillsinger, giving the Lunkers a 3-2 lead in the top of the eleventh. Five more runs came across on a Vince Bruno walk, a Tommy Reyes groundball--which scored two on Mikey Reynolds’ throwing error--and David Allbritton's two-run single.
The six runs in the eleventh marked eight unanswered runs for Brainerd after falling behind 2-0 in the first.
After giving up those two in the first, Charlie Henderson came back strong, ending his evening after seven innings, surrendering only five hits total, striking out two and walking none.
Jacob Barnes picked up the loss for Willmar. After coming on in the tenth and striking David Allbritton out with the bases loaded, Barnes surrendered his first earned run of the season with Berge's single.
The win for the Lunkers is their first ever against the Stingers, after dropping their first four against the Stingers in their head-to-head history.
It's the first time Willmar dropped a game this season after scoring first.
The Lunkers return home tomorrow night to began a two-game weekend set against the Rochester Honkers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
